North Platte R-I School District

"Preparing Today for Tommorrow's Challenges"

October 02, 2008

The North Platte R-I comprehensive educational program addresses the academic needs of our students from elementary through high school. Our mission is to serve as a unifying element of our community by providing lifelong learning through a commitment to quality educational opportunities that prepare individuals to be effective, responsible citizens in a changing society. All of the programs and activities in the North Platte schools are based on our philosophy of providing all students with educational opportunities suited to their individual needs, which will enhance their opportunities for self-fulfillment in a changing environment.

Our academic strength comes from an unwavering commitment to excellence in education. A dedicated professional staff and supportive patrons make education at North Platte a community endeavor. With this support and dedication, it is not surprising that North Platte is making vast strides. In 1986 our community voted for a major elementary addition, an intermediate addition, and a complete renovation of the high school. This support has allowed a lower pupil ratio and an expanded curriculum. In 1994 the community approved a 30-cent levy increase which has allowed for continued improvements. One area of improvement is technology. The district currently has a computer in all classrooms, six computer labs, and a student to computer ratio of 6:1 in grades K-6, and 3:1 in grades 7-12. In 1996 the community overwhelmingly approved a levy for construction of a new high school, and in 1998 the community overwhelmingly approved an increase in the levy for teachers' salaries.

In addition to the excellence of the North Platte Schools, the location of our district makes residing in the area attractive. Situated only fifteen minutes from KCI, the area combines the warmth and friendliness of small-town living with the convenient availability of the cultural, civic, educational, and sports attractions of Kansas City and St. Joseph.
