Free Anti-virus software for home use

Keep your computer safe

March 27, 2009

As more students bring flash drives from home to school it's becoming more important than ever to keep home anti-virus software updated.  Although every flash drive brought to school is to be checked for viruses before being used in a school computer, it makes sense to have anti-virus software protecting the home computer, too.

There are several free products for home use which can be found by searching with Google or any search engine.  AVG by Grisoft is one free product for home use.  The school currently uses the paid version of this product.

Most anti-virus products update daily.  If you purchased a new computer and the trial period for your anti-virus software has expired, then you no longer receive updates and your computer is at risk every time you go online.  To protect your computer, your data, and hinder identity theft, either renew the trial software by purchasing it or uninstall it and install one of the free home versions.

In addition to anti-virus software consider installing anti-spyware software.  There are, again, several free versions to be found on the Internet.
