Parents/Guardians:
Welcome back! It is going to be an exciting and rewarding year at North Platte Intermediate School. I would like to introduce our new character program called PAC (Panthers Achieving Character). Each month throughout the school year, teachers, staff, and students will do something special to illustrate and encourage a particular value for the month. September's PAC value is "Responsible." During my guidance lessons each month I will focus on a portion of my time on the PAC word as well.
In this monthly newsletter, I will provide you with information as to how you can incorporate and reinforce these skills at home. (See below.)
Parent Tips for Encouraging Responsibility:
*Demonstrate how children can care for their own and other's property
*Emphasize the importance of completing home and school tasks
*Allow children to learn from their mistakes
At school age, more responsibilities can be given to children (returning library books, bringing band instruments to school, returning completed homework) to name a few. Sometimes there is a tendency for adults to rescue children from unpleasant consequences, both at school and home. When this is done, this sends the message to children that they are incapable of doing it on their own, and they don't learn to accept the consequences of their actions. An alternative idea is to stop, say very little, and let the effect of the child's action teach the life skill of responsibility.
Thank you for your "responsible" parenting and your awesome support of our school!

*Special thanks to Cathy Boyd, Derek Colburn, and the North Platte teachers for their hard work and dedication in the development of this new program.
**The PAC for September is "Responsible" and October's PAC will be "Respectful."
