Players Named to Academic All-State Football

January 26, 2010

Three high school boys were chosen for Academic All-State Football. Those students were junior Brandt Sanders and seniors Del Jones and Matt Percell. For them to qualify for this award, they had to score a 25 or higher on the ACT or 1740 on the SAT; they had to maintain a 3.5 GPA and rank in the top 10% of their class. The players' head coach had to nominate them, and they had to be a starter on offense or defense, or be a punter or a kicker in 70 percent of games. Only sophomores, juniors and seniors can be a part of this.

"Academic All-State Football is to honor boys who do good in the classroom as well as on the field," Coach Jim Brockoff said.

The players had similar opinions.

"It was a great honor," Percell said.

"It was pretty exciting," Sanders said.

This is the first year this event has been done. Coaches could nominate four to five students, and the state of Missouri chose the top 75 players.
