How Do I Get My Instrument Fixed?
by Tom Brockman
March 12, 2009
Many questions have come up in regards to instrument repair. The main question is, where do I go? Just like our vehicles we want to take the instruments to a reputable music store that has a repair department. Please don't attempt to fix major issues on your own.
Where to Go?
There are many options in instrument repair. The first being that if you are renting your instrument through our music representative Hume Music, you can simply send the instrument in with their sales representative, Marvin Wortman. We can do this each Monday afternoon when he visits the school. If you are renting from Hume they will fix your instrument without charge since it is part of the rental contract.
If you are not renting with Hume, you can still send in your instrument to Hume via the same way. Leave your contact information inside the case in a safe place and they will contact you with the evaluation and cost estimate. They will at that time set up payment options. You can pay over the phone or you may also send a check with your student to school on the Monday when it is to return. If you happen to be in the area of the Hume store when the time they are supposed to have it fixed you can stop by and pick it up yourself if you desire. Otherwise, when they are finished they will return it to the school.
What Can My Child Do While the Instrument Is Away?
When sending in your instrument with Hume contact them ahead of time to let them know your plans. They will usually provide a "loaner" instrument while yours is being fixed. Keep in mind that I only see Marvin once a week on Monday afternoons. So you must call the previous Thursday to set up in any orders.
If there are further questions please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Mr. Brockman
